Dedicated teams vs project engagements
Pick the model that matches how long the problem will last. Do not buy a team for a launch, or a project for a product.
Vantrea Tech
A project is a bounded outcome: a slice, a launch, a replacement. A dedicated team is a capacity that stays with a domain. Mixing them up is how companies feel overcharged and under-owned at once.
If you know the job, the interfaces, and the date, buy a project. Discovery through launch, with a named exit. If you are still finding the product, or the product will keep moving, buy a team. Continuity is the feature.
Staff augmentation sits in an awkward middle. Hours without ownership. It can fill a seat. It cannot hold a product in its head unless someone on your side already does.
Vantrea will recommend the smaller model when it is honest. A two-month project is not a failure of ambition. A year-long team on a six-week problem is.
The tell is knowledge. If losing the vendor would lose the domain, you did not buy a partnership. You bought a hostage situation. Write things down as if they will leave. Then they can stay without trapping you.
